Is it possible to save hair damaged by bleaching?

Dyeing hair blonde requires the use of an oxidant. It is necessary to rinse out our natural darker dye from the hair and replace it with light tones. This process has a negative effect on the condition of the hair – it dries it out, causes it to break along the lengths and the ends to split much more. Over time, as a result of prolonged bleaching, hair takes on a characteristic grayish unattractive look. It is difficult to style, frizzy, fly-away and kinky.

If your bleached hair is badly damaged, don’t wait any longer, start taking intensive care of it and within a few weeks you can significantly improve its appearance. Bleach-damaged hair can be saved. However, it will require regularity and determination.

You should make changes to your daily hair care routine as soon as possible. You need to take a holistic approach and implement a few essential hair care principles

  • very gentle shampooing,
  • conditioning,

Care for hair damaged by bleaching

If you are not thrilled with the condition of your blonde hair, first visit an experienced hairdresser to assess the degree of damage. Your hair stylist will advise you on how to get your hair back to its healthy and beautiful state.

The first step in dealing with very dry and damaged hair is to stop further damaging your hair structure. In practice, this means giving up bleaching, at least for a while, and focusing on intensive regeneration according to the following scheme:

Gentle washing

Forget aggressive, strongly drying and weighing hair shampoos containing SLS, alcohol and silicones. You should reach for the most natural shampoos, preferably herbal, containing in their composition mild cleansing substances such as soapwort extract or coconut glucoside. Switching to natural washing products may be difficult at first because you will have to get used to the fact that such shampoos lather much less and some of them almost not at all and your hair looks a bit different after their use than after washing it with a traditional detergent. No doubt they are soft and clean, but sometimes they do not have the volume or flow that we are used to.

Besides choosing the right shampoo, the way you wash your hair is also very important. Never use hot water as this will dry out already damaged hair. Wet your hair thoroughly with lukewarm water and before you apply shampoo, it is best to dilute it with 50-100 ml of water in a small cup and only then pour it over your head.

Wash your hair gently and gently without tugging. Massage your scalp with your fingertips for 2-3 minutes. There is no need to saponify the lengths of your hair with shampoo – they will wash into the lather as you rinse your head. Follow up with a conditioner or mask. After washing, drain excess water and wrap your head with a soft towel. It’s best if you also forgo the use of a hair dryer, or at least replace the traditional appliance with one that has a cool air blower.
